What our customers say

Very low outgrades
“As seed growers Arsenal gives us consistently good tuber numbers and yield with very low out grades, and we are acutely aware of the benefits of the resistance and tolerance.”
   - Peter Shiells, Mertoun Estate Farms Ltd, Scottish Borders

Significant key benefits
“Arsenal has been a mainstay of the UK crisping sector for many years. At Spearhead Marketing Ltd. we continue to grow Arsenal for our key customers, having delivered in excess of 10,000 tonnes of the variety annually over the last 5 years. Arsenal provides significant key benefits for our growers, not least a consistent yield, but also industry leading resistance and tolerance to G. pallida nematodes.”
   – Darren Mackie, Director, Greenseed Ltd & Spearhead Marketing Ltd.

Suggested fertiliser treatment
Nitrogen: standard advice -50kg to influence dry matter levels.
Potassium: standard advice +10% to influence tuber numbers.
On low Potassium index soils apply Potassium Chloride up to December. Applications after this date should be Potassium Sulphate to avoid reducing the tuber dry matter.
Phosphate: standard advice.

Cultivation
Chitting is recommended and plant into warm soils.
Regular irrigation will improve uniformity of growth, yield performance and prevents growth cracks.
It is recommended to apply a seed treatment against Rhizoctonia.

Plant spacing
30/40mm: 19cm (58,500 plants/Ha).
40/50mm: 23cm (48,300 plants/Ha).
50/60mm: 28cm (39,600 plants/Ha).
Spacing figures for 90cm row width.

Herbicide sensitivity
Metribuzin (Sencorex) may cause foliage discolouration but, no yield effect has been found.

Fungicides
Arsenal is susceptible to Foliage and Tuber Blight so a preventative spray programme is required.

Storage
Good dormancy, suitable for medium term storage but it is not uncommon for crops to be processed green top or to be stored through to May.
