Agrico offers a range of potato varieties that are ideal for the processing industry. In Agrico’s breeding program for this market segment, the seedlings are selected for cooking quality (i.e. baking and frying) in addition to characteristics for yield, resistance, tuber shape, flesh color and storage. These characteristics are strongly prioritized when assessing potential new varieties. Is the profile for content and distribution of dry matter suitable for the intended use? Does the variety absorb more or less fat? Is the variety suitable for processing into flakes? Varieties that are suitable for turning into a convenience (chilled) potato product are also categorized in this section of Agrico’s portfolio. All varieties suitable for the processing industry are marked by a small yellow potato.
