Agrico Nordic visits Finland

Agrico Nordic Fieldday Sept 2025

Field Visits, trials, and partnership highlight Agrico Nordic’s late summer activities

Agrico Nordic has had several opportunities during late summer to present its activities, both within and beyond Sweden’s borders.

In August, we visited our partners in Finland, starting with Myllymäen Peruna Oy. Agrico’s potato varieties are being tested at Myllymäen to assess their potential for the Finnish market. Seed production of Fontane is also being evaluated, and the results so far are promising: the seed quality is good with a nice size distribution.
Since Finnish seed is prioritized by local table potato growers, having Myllymäen as a producer of Fontane could help the variety make a comeback in Finland. The collaboration with Myllymäen, initiated last year, has been very positive, and Agrico Nordic looks forward to further developing the partnership.

During the same trip, Lars-Inge and Sjoerd also met with Kimmo Pusa at Finnamyl. The visit began with a trial field featuring different starch varieties, followed by an inspection of a field where Allstar and Kuras were compared. Allstar is showing a higher starch content compared to Kuras and, being an earlier variety, shows great potential in a country where winters can start early.

On September 3, Agrico Nordic participated in the Potato and Horticulture Field Day in Borgeby – a demonstration event where participants are introduced to exciting trials, new technologies, and innovations directly in the field. Agrico Nordic showcased three varieties in the demo plots: Twister, Jacky, and Thalia.

Last year, late blight was a hot topic at the Field Day due to the emergence of a new Revus-resistant strain. This year, the discussion continued, particularly in light of Denmark’s upcoming ban on crop protection products containing PFAS, set to take effect in 2027. As a result, blight-resistant potato varieties might play a bigger role in future cultivation, given the reduced availability of plant protection alternatives.
